Well,I got the test results from the MRI,and the doc told me that, basically, the nerves in the portion of the left side of my brain which control balance, well are pretty much gone-probably from a viral infection I'd had a couple years ago,as well as noise and blast exposure. She said also that a spot somewhat above that area had appeared on the test, possibly from the IED,but that she had no way to really know for sure. She had wanted, initially to confirm or deny the existance of any tumors, and that came up clear, but there was still enough damage done. She is a relatively young doc,and I'm the first combat veteran she's ever seen,so some of what she saw was all new to her.She has some theories as to what all is going on,but further testing is needed-oh GREAT......have to go see a neurologist in a couple weeks. She wants to see if there is any evidence of seizure activity in my noggin. My daughter is epileptic, and I had a great aunt who was also,so mild seizure activity is certainly possible.
This will probably adversely affect my duty status with the army, but of course, with the army being a mindless bureacracy like any other,it is'nt all that simple.I called my case manager at Fort Knox,to advise her that I had new medical info which might just throw a wrench into everything, and she referred me to a gal at Walter Reed, who handles these cases.Well, she had said that my case was closed, with me having been found fit for duty, and I had 90 days to report in.I'll need to submit my medical records, along with a mountain of paperwork,to the Army Board for Correction of Military Records.Promises to be quite the goatfuck...(yes,"goatfuck "IS a noun)
If they still want me to return to active service,I'm certainly game-theres still plenty of useful work I can do for the army, but don't think I'll be out on patrol in Baghdad anytime soon......
