Well,I was on my way to Green Bay today, for a job interview at one place(a slaughterhouse I worked at a dozen years ago, when I was in the national guard).Anyway,I got there, and had about 15 minutes before my interview ,so I whipped out my handy dandy cell phone, and called wifey-poo,to inquire about the status of something at home, and she mentioned that not one,but TWO other places I had applied at had called, looking for me.Well,I told her I'd go ahead and do this interview,as I was already in their parking lot.(Its not a real brain intensive job-a trained monkey-preferably one bi-lingal in both spanish and english could handle it),but I need to do SOMETHING while my applications for the post office and prison service are winding through the channels.Well,I went in,and met the requirements for the job-basically two forms of photo ID and a pulse.....I got hired, and start on monday. The gal who did the interview said there was plenty of overtime available, which is fine. When I worked there in 93 and 94,I was taking home some halfway decent paychecks, and I can use that right about now.Plus, theres some pretty good bennies there-I can buy my meat at a discount there, they have tuition assistance there(and its right down the road from UW-Green Bay,so I can take classes before work),and a few other goodies.I did'nt mind working there, last time I was there(ok,maybe except for the time I slopped cow bile all over myself).I know this is'nt a permanant solution, but it'll keep us going for now,SOMEWHAT in style anyway-and if our unseasonably mild weather holds-my daily commute to Green Bay won't be TOO hideous-I remember MANY a time fighting my way there and back through snowstorms -and not ALWAYS getting through....my truck is a gas hog for the commute, but I'll get a more economical car in the spring-wether I'm still there at that point or not.Anyway, its good to have a solid job lined up-I start monday, and I'll continue putting out feelers for something
more suited to a retired NCO but for now,at least its honest work, and it'll put food on the table and beer in the fridge
