Well, its that time of year again-when it just gets colder than penguin shit.....we've been pretty fortunate so far this year, with having a VERY unseasonably warm winter-but THATS done with. The wife and I were just totally CRINGING about how we'd acclimate to our first Wisconsin winter, after being gone from here for 8 years-and until a few days ago,it was'nt bad-but last night,on my way home from work, the bank clock I check each night on the way home, once I cross the East river in Green Bay,said minus 2 degrees.I've been tossing various survival gear into my vehicles, just in case I were to break down on the way home from work(its 35 miles to work)-blankets,extra jackets,etc....it'd be a long walk in the cold without proper clothing and a blanket.I got caught without that a time or two-one time, before we left Wisconsin,I drove off into the ditch,on Wisconsin 47,during whiteout conditions-the back end of the car was hung up on a snow drift by the tail pipe-I got out a 4 pound sledge, and was beating on that tail pipe for all I was worth,to get the car out-but all I accomplished was to get wetter and colder. After about 5 minutes or so,its like screw this-I'm not getting anywhere-grabbed an old army blanket from the trunk, bundled up,and started walking-was'nt sure how far from town I was,but luck was with me-only had about a mile to walk.I got to a conveinence store in town, and sheltered until I caught a ride home, then my bro in law went out with me the next day with his jeep, and we pulled it out.Fortunately, have'nt had any episodes like that THIS year.....and its already February-wich is a short month anyway, and we're already a few days into it,so hopefully,a few more weeks will see us through to some nicer weather.
Just glad I've got good heaters in both vehicles, and a pretty well insulated house-our heating bills have been pretty reasonable so far-but,that being said,I'm READY for spring!
