We've all driven them-call them what you want-a hoopdy,a POS,a rustbucket,a heap,a jalopy-we've all had them-those cars that as Jeff Foxworthy said, increase in value when you fill the gas tank...
But I love driving them....I don't have to impress ANYONE at my age,by driving a brand spanking new car-I'll stick with my old rustbuckets. And boy, have I had some doozys over the years.....
Right now, since we got our "new" car for the wife,a 2000 Cavalier,I've been driving our '94 Taurus-which just clicked on 152,000 miles last night-but it gets me down the road,REASONABLY dependably, has a great heater, and a good radio. As long as I don't have to stick major repair money into it,I'll keep it.
Sure better than SOME cars I've had-like the '79 Impala I once had-had to buy a battery, just to get it home,it had ONE functional brake, one functional headlight-the list goes on and on-WELL worth the 100 bucks I paid.....then there was the '85 Escort I'd bought from a guy in my guard unit for 200 bucks-ran that car for 10,000 miles-until the clutch went out-gee,time for ANOTHER car.....then there was the '87 Nissan I bought off my brother-it was an insurance total they'd brought into the shop he worked at-he bought it,and stuck a little money into it,and I bought it for 700 bucks-great milage, but UGLY.....ran that car for a year and a half, till I blew the motor on it-but HAD 278,000 miles on it.Had to get my old rusty '83 F-150 to knock it out of the way in my driveway-took me three tries-the wife said I was having WAY too much fun
I suppose I'll probably have to get a "decent" car one of these days.
